Elementary Teacher Careers

Guaranteed CSU Admission Options

Earn your associate of arts for transfer (AA-T) degree at GWC in either elementary teacher education or child and adolescent development to earn guaranteed admission to a California State University (CSU or Cal State). You gain:

  • Junior standing in the CSU system
  • Priority consideration at local CSU campuses
  • Priority consideration for education majors

Be aware that your admission may be to a Cal State campus outside of SoCal. Read all the details about guaranteed transfer programs.

Encouraging Growth

Choose the child and adolescent development AA-T if you want a career focused on helping children grow and develop. After you transfer, you can work towards a specific career goal, such as:

  • Early childhood center director
  • Elementary school teacher, focused on both academic achievement and socio-emotional development
  • Youth program leader
  • Family counseling or social work

All these careers require further education and experience.

Transfer Options: Open

Choose the associate of arts (AA) in Liberal Studies for Elementary Education if you think you might be headed to a UC or private university, or even to a career outside of teaching, such as:

  • Paraprofessional in the classroom
  • Administration
  • Educational policy development

Work closely with your counselor to match your courses with your goals. Although the courses in this program will transfer to a CSU, this AA does not include guaranteed admission. How your four-year college decides to apply these credits may also vary.
